More Than 5 Ways to Style a Poncho

Inside our upcoming edition of Love of Crochet Winter 2017 we show you 5 ways to style a poncho, but I actually found 7 ways to style it. And some of the styles look different depending on if you fold the poncho with the stripes or solid section facing out. The issue comes out in just one week, and we’ve got a sneak peek just for you!

This stunning poncho by Juliette Bezold is called the Glamorous Gala Poncho for a reason. It’s beautiful! Juliette designed it in Tunisian crochet using Cascade Yarns Heritage. It’s absolutely breathtaking and would look great worn to formal and casual parties alike.

The folded poncho measures 31.5” wide and 20.5” deep, including the fringe. The yarn is 75% superwash merino and 25% nylon, so it has fabulous drape and is easy to care for.

Your Many Poncho Style Options

style a poncho

Over the Shoulder (left)

Put your head and one arm through the opening and let the poncho drape diagonally across your chest.

Angled Skirt (right)

Place the poncho over your head and push it down to your waist. It will naturally hang at an angle.

style a ponchoAcross the Chest (left)

Place the opening horizontally across your chest so that it’s resting on the outside of your shoulders. For this style, you may need to make the opening larger by seaming fewer stitches together.

Cowl-Draped Front (right)

Place the poncho over your head with the join at the back of your neck. Pull the sides of the poncho up on your shoulders, which will make the poncho sag at the front. Bunch this extra fabric at your chest into a draped cowl.

V-Front (left)

Place the poncho over your head with the join pulled down to the front.

Striped Scarf (right)

Roll each side of the poncho up to the center join. Place it over your head and let it hang down your front for a mock scarf.

Half-Hitch Scarf

Roll each side of the poncho up to the center join. Place it over your head and tuck the ends through the opening to create a half-hitch scarf. Note: depending on how you roll the poncho, it will look more striped or more solid.
