WWDD: 5 Crochet Projects for a Summer Road Trip

A few years ago, my mom and I took a road trip through the western United States. We drove from Colorado to California and stopped at so many incredible places along the way. If you’re looking for a trip to finish out your summer, hop in the car and go! Here is a guide to 5 places to stop on your adventure—and 5 crochet projects you’ll need while you’re there!

1. Jardin Hat at Four Corners Monument

Take a trip to the Four Corners Monument: it is where Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah meet, and you can stand in all 4 states at once. This monument is out in the middle of the hot, hot summer sun, so if you go, you’ll need a sun hat to help protect you from the heat. I wore a black fedora on my trip—big mistake. The heat really got to me. The Jardin Hat from Interweave Crochet Summer 2017 is what you need for this leg of the trip. It keeps the sun out of your eyes but still lets your head breathe.

2. Sketch Set at Arches National Park

Be sure to stop by Arches National Park in Utah and hike to the iconic Delicate Arch. The Sketch Set from Love of Crochet Fall 2016 will come in handy here. Can you imagine anything better than admiring that view and taking some time to sketch or journal about it? Sounds pretty perfect to me!

3. Tweedy Bag at the Grand Canyon

You can’t pass up the Grand Canyon! My mom and I took casual strolls along the rim and I carried a messenger bag, which was handy for toting essentials. Bring the Tweedy Bag from Interweave Crochet Fall 2016: it’s just what you need to carry a water bottle, some sunscreen, sunglasses, and other small necessities for a quick walk through the heat.

4. Gypsy Boxers at Monument Valley (and everywhere)

I love a good pair of crochet shorts. You can wear them the entire trip, but they’re especially fun for stops in the desert. Make the Gypsy Boxers from Interweave Crochet Summer 2014 for a visit to Monument Valley, along the Utah-Arizona border.

5. Ocean Breeze Headband at the beach

After days in the hot car, you can’t pass up a trip to the beach. If you hit the water, you’ll need the Ocean Breeze Headband from Love of Crochet Summer 2017. It will keep your hair out of your face in that incredible ocean breeze.

Will you be able to hit the road this summer? Where do you plan to stop—and what crochet projects do you plan to take?

Happy travels and happy stitching!
