3 Ways to Crochet a Bobble Stitch

Let the Interweave Knits Winter 2024 issue transport you to a winter wonderland of cozy knits! This remarkable edition features 14 extraordinary projects to immerse yourself in the uniqueness of specially crafted yarns.

There are so many ways to work a crochet bobble stitch, and each is different depending on the pattern you choose. The basic premise of a crochet bobble stitch is that you work most of a stitch, stopping before the final yarn over and pull through. Then repeat this in the same stitch or space, and when you have enough partial stitches to create a bobble of yarn, you will finish with a yarn over and pull through all remaining loops.

There are many variations for this stitch, depending on the project you work. Some might use double crochet to work a bobble, while others might use treble crochet. There might be a series of 3 partial stitches before the final yarn over, or there could be as many as 7 partial stitches for an especially dense bobble. We’ll walk you through some of our favorite bobble variations and give you some projects for practicing this trendy and textured stitch.

1. Classic Bobble:

Yarn over, insert hook in indicated stitch or space, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops on hook, (yarn over, insert hook in same stitch or space, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops on hook) 4 times (6 loops on hook), yarn over, draw through all remaining loops on hook.
