2 Toned HDC Bamboo Pillow

Heather’s Crochet Designs

I used BambooSpun yarn to create this Half Double Crocheted, 2-toned 14 x 14 inch pillow. This yarn is made by Hobby Lobby and can only be found there.  This yarn is very soft and comes in many coordinating colors. For every variegated yarn there is a solid coordinating yarn to go with it.

Materials List

  • 1 Skein Bamboo Spun, “Vintage”, 134 yards
  • 1 Skein Bamboo Spun, “Sea Blue” 134 yards
  • Hook Size: K
  • Yarn Needle
  • 14 inches by 14 inch pillow form

Finished Size

Before sewing – Finished Size: 13 inches by 14 inches

After sewing – Finished Size: 14 inches by 14 inches

3 HDC’s  per inch

HDC = Half Double Crochet

The Pattern

Make 2 pieces that measure 13 inch x 14 inch. The reason I make one side a little smaller than the pillow form is so it’s nice and taught. If they are made 14×14 the pillow form will be loose within the crocheted cover.  Do 1 in the variegated yarn and the other in the solid colored yarn.

Pattern: Chain 40 (The chain 2 does not count as first stitch)

Row 1: Insert hook into 3rd chain from hook, do 1 HDC in each stitch across the row  (38 HDC’s)

Row 2: chain 2, turn, do 1 HDC in each stitch across the row

Repeat row 2 until you reach the desired length

FINISHING: If you have made pillows before you might have your own way of sewing it. If you don’t this is what I did. I took 1 of the pieces and pinned it to the form. I did the same for the 2nd side. Then I started in one of the corners and sewed the pieces togethor.
