Work Table Wednesday: Bead Embroidered Collar
|My latest bead embroidery project, a large bead embroidered collar with a handmade ceramic cabochon by Lisa Peters Art. What's on YOUR beading table this Wednesday?|
It's Wednesday! That means we're halfway through the work week, and it's time to show off what you've got on your beading table! Work Table Wednesday is when a bunch of us take pictures of our latest beading projects and post them online for everyone to see.
My latest project is a new bead embroidered collar, part of my 2012 beading goals. I had so much fun finishing up my last bead embroidered collar that I decided one of my goals for 2012 would be to complete the other six brass collars that I have sitting on my work table. Of course, I chose the largest one first. But not because it was so big: I chose it because I have the perfect focal point, a handmade ceramic cabochon from Lisa Peters Art.
I'll be posting updates to this piece of bead embroidery as I work it, but my first step was to make a paper template of my collar so that I could trace it on my bead embroidery backing. This was a little trickier than I had thought, probably due to the large size of the collar. I've never actually worked on one this large before! The template was just big enough to fit on a large sheet of my favorite bead embroidery backing. If it had been any larger, I would have been out of luck.
Next I chose my colors for the cabochon bezel. I was surprised to see that the colors I had already chosen in my head didn't match at all when I pulled them out of my bead stash! But with a little more digging, I found the right bead colors, centered and glued my cabochon, and worked my peyote stitch bezel. After the bezel was finished, I surrounded it with a row of simple bead embroidered back stitch.
Unfortunately, that's as far as I've gotten with this bead embroidered collar. I'd love to be able to say that it'll be ready for my upcoming trip to Tucson, but I know better. Between deadlines and my January earring challenge, I'll be lucky if I can fit in a few minutes of stitching on this collar every day. (Maybe I can bead on the airplane to Tucson?)
So let's see what's on your beading table this Wednesday! Leave a comment below and tell us what you're working on, or snap a quick picture and head on over to the Reader Photo Galleries and share with us!
