Upcoming Trend: Metal Jewelry

As the editors of Jewelry Stringing magazine are pulling themes for our winter 2016 issue (I still can’t believe it’s that time of year already), I’ve been researching hot trends for this coming winter season. While you’ll have to stay tuned to see what themes make our final cut, I wanted to take a moment to point out some resilient trends voted by top fashion sites including Free People, Stella & Dot, and Pouted magazine! Among the list are:

metal jewelry

  • Crystal statement necklaces
  • Hand pieces and palm cuffs
  • Chokers
  • Stacked rings
  • Mirrored/reflective necklaces
  • Charms and engraved jewelry
  • Statement cuffs
  • Large earrings + single earrings
  • And more!

What stuck out to me was that metal (specifically gold details) was incorporated within each theme noted above. If there was a crystal statement necklace it was strung on a thick metal chain. Statement cuffs feature large metal beads or components. Stacked rings were often made of gold or silver bands, and large earrings with metal presence stole the show. I’m loving this trend, and it seems like everyone else is, too!

How do you like to incorporate gold and other metals into your jewelry? Is this a trend you plan to explore this winter? Award winning designer, instructor, and author, Kim St. Jean, has certainly fallen for this theme and wants to take you with her. Her newest video, Kitchen Table Metalsmithing: Intro to Basic Jewelry Tools Through 6 Metal Earring Designs with Kim St. Jean, teaches you to make your own show-stopping metal jewelry, starting with the basic tools, and teaches to make six trendy pairs of earrings. I love her accessible take on the metal jewelry trend!
