The CHA Mega Show 2016 – It’s a wrap!
The Craft and Hobby Association (CHA) is celebrating their 75th anniversary and did it in style. Hosting a 5-day event, CHA brought business seminars, a show floor teaming with exhibitors of all kinds, award ceremonies, trend reports and make-and-takes everywhere you looked, to all retailers and businesses in attendance.
The CHA Mega Show 2016 ran the gamut on crafts being shown — scrapbooking and paper; knitting, crochet and sewing; cake decorating; and jewelry and beads to name a few. The event is always a great time for business owners to network, source products, learn how to use the tools and materials being exhibited so they can in turn teach their customers, see some of your favorite craft artists in action (Tim Holtz draws an amazing crowd!). For me, it’s a great time to learn trends, get the inside scoop on what’s coming out next, catch up with friends as well as enjoy some warmer weather!
There were events every day of the show. Being a bit of a tool fanatic and gotta-have-it-so-I-can-try-it artist, I keyed in on the Hot Products events. During the first event, the new hot-product finalists were announced (there were 20 selected from hundreds of entries). The second event happens during the Gala where the winners were announced.

Congratulations to all the Hot Product finalists and to Beadalon and Kleshna for winning the Bead & Jewelry category Hot Product of the year award!
Be sure to check out the other categories and Hot Products winners.
If you’re interested, the CHA show will move to Phoenix, Arizona next year and be held later in January. They also host a show in Chicago in July.
I also had the pleasure of meeting a few other F+W employees while at the show. Sara Domville, President of F+W; Pam Wissman from trade sales; and Tonia Jenny from editorial at North Light Books. Pam and Tonia were working the F+W booth, showing off all the great products F+W publishes as well as hosting lots of book and DVD signings. Among the edtiors/artists doing book signings were Julianna Avelar, signing her Jewel Loom Inspirations book and Danielle Donaldson, signing her watercolor DVDs.
I see that while I’ve been on the road, Melinda Barta’s NEW Peyote Stitch Companion: Basics DVD released along with kits for the Sawtooth Cuff in a purple and green colorway and a russet rose and teal colorway! Yowza! I know what I’m ordering to have on my bead board during NFL football playoffs. If you are lucky to get one of these limited beading kits, please drop a note on BeadingDaily.com to let us all know which color you chose and how you made out stitching it together.
