Starstruck at Bead Fest Santa Fe

My first trip to Bead Fest Santa Fe was truly a whirlwind experience. Fellow editor Debbie Blair and I packed as much as we could into our brief time there (check out Debbie's visual re-cap of our trip in her recent blog post). Between getting to know a ton of vendors, browsing through the bead buffet of inspiring materials, and exploring the city of Santa Fe, it is difficult to choose my favorite part of our trip, but one of the highlights for me was getting to meet Sara Rhoades, grand-prize winner of our Bead Star 2011 competition.

I was so happy to be able to present Sara with her grand prize–a whopping $1000 shopping spree generously donated by Fire Mountain Gems and Beads. How Sara found the time to craft her winning design while getting her own business off the ground (S.K. Rhoades Design), raising a young daughter with her husband, earning a master's degree, and preparing to take on a new position as the senior gallery associate at the New Harmony Museum of Contemporary Art is completely beyond me.  A hard worker and a sweetheart to her core, she is so deserving of this award. Congrats again, Sara!

Stay tuned for Bead Star 2012–entries will be accepted starting April 1st! Contest rules can be found here.
