Seed Bead and Wire Halloween Earrings
Do you bead for the holidays? Which ones? Halloween? Christmas? How about Alphabet Day (October 9), National Chocolate Day (October 28), or Poppy Day (November 11)?
I don't bead for Halloween (my easy pumpkin bead zipper pull from last year's newsletter was an exception), but I do try to create at least one great necklace to wear to holiday parties in December and January. I aim for something bright and pretty, but not so holidayish that I'd feel uncomfortable wearing it in June. Last year I wore my Rambling Rose necklace which is free on the Beading Daily website. This year I made a "Festive Pendant" that combined silver findings and different shapes of red crystals using very simple stringing and wireworking techniques. You can find the full instructions in the new issue of Jewelry Gifts for the Holidays. I love pendants for gifts because they always fit the recipient (unlike many bracelets) and they can be worn on different materials–chain, ribbon, cord, beadwoven ropes–of varying lengths.
So how about you? Do you always make items like "Valentine's Day necklaces" or do you ignore the holidays when you design?

Show your love of Halloween with these cute beaded witch earrings created with different sizes of seed beads and thin 28-gauge wire. The red-and-white striped stockings are reminiscent of the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz. The free download period for this project ended October 27, 2008. If you love combining thin wire and beads, take a look at the beautiful Poinsettia Pendant by Lindsay Burke in Jewelry Gifts for the Holidays. It may look intimidating, but the magazine does include step-by-step photographs along with full written instructions. Once you master this project, you could make all sorts of great variations–napkin rings, pins, hair ornaments . . . whatever you like! Buy a copy of Jewelry Gifts for the Holidays.
