Pretty in Punk

Confession: In high school I went through a brief punk phase. Wide-leg pants, black-and-red plaid, suspenders hanging down around my knees–the whole shebang. I have since given up the safety pins and thick black eyeliner, but I still haven't been able to abandon my fondness for the jewelry; there is something about skull charms and spike bracelets that will forever speak to me. You can imagine my delight when these punky trends started showing up in popular jewelry designs! Paired with softer colors and more delicate components than the traditional black leather, they have taken on a decidedly more feminine look (many are even finished in shiny gold tones and sparkly rhinestones!).

Would love to get my hands on some of these beauties:

The petite spikes in this Renegade Cluster necklace from Stella & Dot are strung with gold spacers and rhinestone pave balls.
This raven skull necklace from Moon Raven Designs is cast in bronze. I have a few other charm-and-chain necklaces that I like to layer together–I think this one would be an excellent addition to my collection!
King Baby Studio's Black Onyx Skull Bracelet is available at Neiman Marcus and is a great example of a simple-but-glam skull statement piece.

As tempting as it is to buy up these daring pieces wherever I see them, I am holding out to make up some designs of my own!

These fun and funky materials are the next items on my shopping list:

Nina Designs
TierraCast charms from
Glass spike beads from BeadFX

Any other fans of this punky new trend out there?
