Pick Your Prize Giveaway, Plus Power of Beading Contest Winners
Congraulations Power of Beading Contest Winners!
We raised $1,143 for two cancer charities, the American Institute for Cancer Research and The Wellness Community, by selling the instructions for the Awareness Ribbon Pins created by designer Kerrie Slade. Thanks to everyone who helped make our first fundraiser a success! Two lucky readers also won the "Power of Beading" contest by telling us how beading helped them through a challenging time. Winners Christine Riat and Channon Belfry will each receive a handcrafted beaded ribbon pin created and donated by Kerrie Slade. Read the winning contest entries.

Beadwork VI: The Beaded Book Competition
You still have time to enter this international competition! Preliminary entries will be accepted through December 18, 2008. Think favorite characters in literature, inspiring quotes or passages, books that changed your life–anything related to the world of books. The possibilities are endless! Even though I won't be entering, I couldn't resist creating a beaded version of this middle grade mystery book. I had sooo much fun mixing techniques like peyote stitch, square stitch, ladder stitch, and bead embroidery with materials like felt and ribbon. Winners will be featured in Beadwork magazine and at BeadFest Santa Fe and BeadFest Philadelphia in 2009. I can't wait to see what you dream up! View Complete Rules.
And speaking of contests, make sure you reserve your copy of the first issue of Bead Star, filled with winning project designs using stringing and simple wireworking techniques. This issue, which goes on sale in December, will also include the rules for next year's contest. It's never too early to dream!
