Photos from the Global Etsy Craft Party!
Last month I posted about the Global Etsy Craft Party–"a one-day celebration of meeting and making." Last night I attended the big event with a few girlfriends, and we had a crafty blast! Whimseybox hosted our local craft party and their lovely staff really threw their hearts and souls into this shindig. They decked out their headquarters (in downtown Boulder, CO) with handmade decorations, an impressive spread of finger foods and beverages, and make-and-take craft stations.
We made coasters out of ceramic tiles by mod-podging layers of tissue paper onto them and decorating them with paint pens:
Katy of Nailed It (a good friend and the photographer behind these event photos) even matched her coaster art to her nail design du jour:
Aside from the projects we made, we also walked away with our own boxes of goodies supplied by Etsy and Whimseybox:
Each box included a smattering of stickers, pins, and trinkets, as well as the materials to make an embroidered merit badge.
While the projects and freebies were definitely highlights of the party, seeing the impressive turnout of enthusiastic crafters was my favorite part of the evening. It is easier to connect with fellow makers now than it ever has been, but most of these connections play out indirectly–through personal blogs and websites, or online social communities. It was refreshing to reintroduce a human element to handcrafting by chatting over the workbench with other local artists.
Did any of you make it to your local Etsy Craft Party yesterday?
