Patriotic Beading Patterns for Independence Day Cookouts

Independence Day was one of my favorite days as a child. Almost the entirety of my family is from Philadelphia, and that makes sense when you see how they celebrate the Fourth of July. The holiday brings family together and reminds me of mornings watching parades with Rita’s Italian Ice, afternoons by the pool, and nights stuffed from burgers, watching fireworks. To get into the spirit, I’ve rounded up some of my favorite patriotic beading patterns that are perfect for the holiday. 

Nautical Star

Challenge your beading skills with the Nautical Star, designed by Scarlett Lanson. This beaded purse measures about four inches when complete. It’s made by stitching twelve beaded triangles and zipping them together to form the bag’s geometric shape. While this is a more challenging project, it comes together relatively quickly compared to other bags because of the larger bead size. Crystal rounds connect the triangles for added sparkle. 

Peyote Star Earrings

One of the first techniques that beginners learn in bead weaving is peyote stitch. It’s easy to master and a fun stitch. For an easy project that doesn’t look it, Barbara Richard’s Peyote Star Earrings are a must-make patriotic beading pattern. These earrings stitch up quickly using circular peyote stitch and wire-working techniques. These earrings look cute in a variety of colors, and you can use this same star motif to create necklaces as spacers in a bracelet.

Arabian Nights Bracelet

Shine in patriotic style with the Arabian Nights Bracelet by Nóra Tóth, made in the red and turquoise colorway. This bracelet is made using circular and tubular netting and tubular peyote stitch techniques. For a matching set, you can also stitch a pendant by using similar techniques. Sparkling crystals and pearl rounds catch the eye in either colorway. This project is a fun challenge, and the end result is worth the effort. 

A Little Bubbly

Susan Sassoon’s A Little Bubbly necklace reminds me of red and gold fireworks. This necklace is made using circular peyote stitch and square stitch techniques. The statement necklace features seven cushion beads in a glittering red, or a mix of red and blue. If preferred, Susan recommends substituting the cushion rounds for either 14mm coin beads or dome beads. You can even craft a pair of matching earrings using similar techniques for the perfect set!

BubbleLicious Earrings

For a quick and easy project you can start and finish the night before, or even the morning of, the BubbleLicious Earrings by Michelle Gowland are a nice option to have in your repertoire. These earrings are fun to make and feature crystal pearl rounds combined with daisy spacers and various seed beads for a unique look. The earrings are made using tubular netting techniques. Craft a small pendant to match as well! 

Decorate yourself in stars or red, white, and blue. If you’re celebrating the Fourth of July, you may want to try out these patriotic beading patterns to get into the cookout mood. If you are not celebrating, these beading projects are still fun in their alternate colorways and are great pieces for summer wear.
