Name That Necklace and Win a Kit of Vintage Beads From a Grain of Sand
Maybe it's because I love history, but I'm totally enamored of vintage beads, cabochons, and jewelry-making supplies. That's probably why I love all the goodies from A Grain of Sand that I've been hoarding in my stash for the last few years! But for the October/November issue of Beadwork magazine, editor Melinda Barta, along with three other lucky participants, got to design a piece of beaded jewelry using a kit from A Grain of Sand that included a vintage painted porcelain cabochon, faux marquise-shaped pearls, an assortment of seed beads, and a fabulous crystal and silver box clasp. Here's what Melinda had to say about designing her beaded necklace:
"I resisted the urge to embellish my understated tubular peyote bezel; instead, I let the sweet patterned cabochon remain the focal point of the necklace. A simple flat peyote-stitch bail hangs the pendant, while loops of flat peyote stitch connect all of the strands and the clasp. I was happy to find a use for the cute pearly white buttons; they keep the straps of bronze pearls in order."
Now you get a chance to play along, and maybe win a kit of your own from A Grain of Sand! All you have to do is think up your best name (or names) for Melinda's beautiful creation and post them here as a comment before Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 12 midnight EDT. We'll collect all the names and choose the one we like the best, and the winner will receive their very own kit of beads as pictured here!
