Mmm. Quick and Easy Cupcake Jewelry in 5 Simple Steps

One of my many nicknames is "cupcake." I absolutely adore them in all their cuteness, and am thrilled with their recent increase in popularity. Starting around the turn of the twentieth century, cupcakes were baked in teacups and have now gone gourmet, playful, hip, and glamorous.

I have a cupcake jewelry collection and recently decided to add my own creations to it. Every bead show I attend is filled with fun foodie beads, from lampworked cupcakes to tiny ceramic cupcakes, each one filled with amazing whimsy.

Imagine my delight when I perused Kate McKinnon's new book, The Jewelry Architect-page 67 has the sweetest felt cupcake chain dangles. Join me in creating a few. They're fun to make, but please don't eat them!

1.    Anchor beading thread at one end of the felt ball.

2.    Pull thread through felt ball.

3.    Place ball into a bead cap, a seed bead, and one link of chain.

4.    Repeat for a minimum of 12 passes, adding seed beads to the top of the ball and securing the ball to the chain link each time.

5.    Slip chain links onto suede cord, cut, and tie in a bow or knot.
