These chandelier earrings give off just a little bit of sparkle over a glass of wine. The half moon is a marcasite chandelier with sterling silver chain cascading onyx beads.
Marcasite became popular during WWI & II when diamonds were being used in military manufacturing. Not only is a diamond the hardest substance known, it also has the highest thermal conductivity – tremendous heat can pass through it without causing damage. So women gave up their diamonds and started wearing marcasite that could give off a similar diamond sparkle. I love the old posters: "Do the job he left behind!" Rosie the Riveter 1943
