Join Bead Weaving Designer Kim West in Her Bead Store
How great would it be to own a bead store?! Kim West is a Beadwork contributor who is just that lucky! Kim owns Stony Creek Bead in Ypsilanti, Michigan, where she teaches classes and creates original designs. Kim recently gave us a peek at her beading space inside her store.
Q: Where is your current workspace located?
A: At my store! I used to have a dedicated bead room at my house, before I bought my store in 2015. Now all of my beads have migrated to the store. I have a beading mat on the front counter by the cash register. That’s where I bead!
Q: How is your workspace organized?
A: Since I own a bead store, everything is organized by type and it’s hanging on the walls. Seed beads, Czech glass, pearls, 2-hole beads, etc.
Q: What do you love about your beading space?
A: There are so many choices! I can just walk over to the wall and pick a bead to work with.
Q: What’s the ONE thing you would change about your studio if you could?
A: Nothing! It’s a bead store!!!
Q: What’s your favorite beading tool?
A: I love Tulip needles! I’ve been using the same size 10 beading needle for at least a year. Tulip needles are extremely durable, and they don’t bend.
