Introducing the April Artist Of the Month: Bead Artist Lisa Kan

Yes, it might be April first, but that doesn't mean we're fooling when it comes to introducing our next Artist Of the Month: bead artist and author Lisa Kan!

Lisa's artistic gift is clearly visible in her love of texture, color, and the variety of materials she uses to create her beaded jewelry designs. She was first recognized for her handmade lampwork glass beads, but soon was branching out into bead-weaving and stringing. She has also worked in precious metal clay (PMC) and metalsmithing, just to keep herself busy. Her books, Bead Romantique and Bead Metamorphosis, are favorites of beaders everywhere.

She manages an online shop, Aria Design Studio, where she offers a wonderful selection of beading tools, handmade lampwork glass beads, Shibori ribbon, findings, and of course, an incredible array of glass beads in the newest shapes and colors.

Want to see just a few of my favorite beading projects from Lisa Kan?

Lisa's River's Edge necklace making project combines gemstones, crystals, pearls, and a handmade glass focal bead to create a stunning wear-anywhere piece of beaded jewelry. The color palette is easily adapted to suit your favorite shades and hues!
Inspired by the patterns of Moroccan tile work, the Marrakech earrings add a flair of the exotic to your day. Perfect for using up small bits and beads that you might have left in your stash from other beading projects!
Lisa perfectly captures the rich colors and textures of autumn with her Turning Leaf wire-wrapped necklace project. Freshwater pearls are the perfect accent to a multi-strand wire-wrapped chain that shows off a gorgeous glowing amber leaf focal pendant.
And just because you can't ever have enough pearls, I love the Evening Iridescence beaded bracelet. Keishi pearls are the perfect beaded embellishment for a base of right-angle weave and chevron chain!
Beautiful beadwork doesn't have to be complicated — just take a look at the bright colors and rich textures of Lisa's Petite Fiore bracelet making project! These fun-to-stitch beaded flowers will add grace and elegance to any wrist.

Let Lisa's expertise in color and texture guide you through an exploration of bead-weaving when you get your Featured Artist: Lisa Kan Collection. You'll get a paperback copy of her newest book, Bead Metamorphosis, featuring 16 beading projects using two-hole seed beads, crystal components, pressed glass beads, chain, and more of your favorite beading supplies, along with a complete bead kit for her Trefoil earrings in your choice of blue iris or brown iris.
