Highlights from Beadwork Magazine December 2018/January 2019
I’m already looking ahead to next summer as soon as the leaves start to fall. Raking leaves is also a reminder the holidays are right around the corner and I need to get busy! With our Beadwork magazine December/January 2019 issue hot off the press, I’m taking a cue from a few of our experts and working up some gifts.
Bead Weaving Earrings or Ornaments
The Shiva Earrings are not only “Out of this World” as Meredith has pointed out; this design will also make a great holiday ornament with a slight change in the pattern.
Inspired by the Regal Peacock
Ombré Tailfeathers by Shanna Steele highlights right-angle weave, one of my favorite bead weaving stitches. In fact, Shanna’s design is similar to a design I learned the stitch for. So be it nostalgia or her wonderful way of weaving the beautiful colors of Swarovski crystal into this design, Ombré Tailfeathers is on the list for myself. I might even make two or three of these bracelets in different colors as it will work up quickly and is easily tailored to other color palettes.
Fast & Fabulous
There are other bead-weaving designs in this issue not to be missed but speaking of working up quickly, I’d be remiss if I didn’t highlight our Fast & Fabulous section. The designs in Fast & Fabulous are primed for the holidays and perfect for gift giving—as the name suggests—they are fast and fabulous!
One regal design I’m in love with is Sandra Lupo’s Gems in Harmony necklace. Then, circling back to the thought of summer, two others on my list to create are Havasupai Falls by Anne Perry and Ocean Moods by Terry Ricioli. The colors in these necklaces are not only my favorite but they are so perfect for wearing my heart on my sleeve, so to speak.
Please enjoy this issue, all the inspiration it instills in you, and happy gift-making season!
