6 Herringbone Stitch Beading Projects from Beadwork Magazine 2016
Herringbone stitch is one of my favorite bead weaving techniques. Actually, my very first beading project used this stitch. I have since been searching for new projects to make so that I can master herringbone stitch. If you are also looking for herringbone stitch projects, check out these 6 projects from these 2016 issues of Beadwork magazine.
1. Equilateral Earrings by Robijo Burzynski (J/J)
If you’re looking for quick projects using herringbone stitch and seed beads, look no further than Robijo Burzynski’s Equilateral Earrings from Beadwork, June/July 2016! You can use circular and tubular peyote and herringbone stitches to work two nested triangle motifs to create these coveted geometric earrings. Alternatively, you can turn the components into a pendant by attaching a chain.
2. Modern Flapper Necklace by Anneke van Ingen (A/S)
I recently started making Anneke van Ingen’s Modern Flapper Necklace, a set of four necklaces worn together to achieve a 1920s look published as a simply seeds project in Beadwork, August/September 2016. Use tubular herringbone stitch to create this set of necklaces. This project can take time to finish, but the pattern is fairly simple and repetitive. Although I have only finished one strand, I can wear it while I work on the other three!
3. Whirligig Bracelet by Kassie Shaw (O/N)
Whirligig Bracelet by Kassie Shaw is a versatile rope pattern you can turn into a bracelet or necklace. It’s comprised of cubic–right-angle-weave units and sections of spherical tubular herringbone stitch. This shaped-bead bracelet uses crescent beads (or SuperDuos!) to create a beautiful spiral you’ll love pairing with any outfit! Find this bracelet in Beadwork, October/November 2016.
4. Triverse Pendant by Phyllis Dintenfass (O/N)
Also in Beadwork, October/November 2016, the Triverse Pendant by Phyllis Dintenfass is a great project for those trying to learn herringbone stitch. Made of seed beads and MiniDuos, the pendant is also a quick and fun pattern for those with more advanced skills. This circular herringbone– and peyote-stitched pendant is the epitome of geometric fun, using classic beads with a touch of contemporary flair. It’s definitely at the top of my own to-make list!
5. Briolette Bauble Earrings by Robijo Burzynski (O/N)
Robijo Burzynski’s Briolette Bauble Earrings, from Beadwork, October/November 2016, are simply elegant with a touch of sparkle. Brilliantly faceted Swarovski crystal rondelles are suspended from two folded and connected pieces of circular peyote– and herringbone-stitched beadwork. Alternatively, you can easily transform this pattern into a pendant by stitching one large earring bottom and stringing it on a chain.
6. Wanderlust Bracelet by Nichole Starman (D/J)
Nichole Starman’s Wanderlust Bracelet is a simple, modern piece suitable for any occasion. Demi Round seed beads and tubular herringbone stitch are used to form a two-tone band that surrounds a smooth metallic round at the center of this stylish bracelet. This quick beginner-level project is perfect for travel. Find it in Beadwork, December 2016/January 2017.
