Have Fun: Try a Touch of Neon!
Last summer, assistant editor Chloe Chatenever wrote a blog about the neon trend and how it has made its way to jewelry. Some of you may have rolled your eyes–we have photos from the 80s to remind us that this trend was not a very good idea the first time around. I'm getting sick to my stomach just thinking about the neon yellow pleather skinny tie I once wore–ew! Still, it's a fact that neon's back. And, guess what? I'm really liking it when used tactfully. And by "tactfully" I mean in small doses, mixed with other colors. In the Summer 2013 issue of Jewelry Stringing, we showcase five pieces of jewelry that use bright, neon beads really well. Two of the pieces made the cover (see below). Both pieces, I think you'll agree, do a great job of using neon as an exciting accent color in a tasteful jewelry composition.
I suggest you play with some beads that might be a little bit brighter than you're accustomed to–you might be surprised by the results. You could even make your own neon-dipped beads, as I demonstrated in one of my previous blogs. Below is further evidence that neon in small doses can really be quite lovely.

Do you dare go neon?
