Beaded collar necklaces have a storied history. These beaded necklaces are traditional accessories in multiple cultures and have been worn for centuries. Collar necklaces were popular in ancient Egypt, showing the wearer’s status in society, and have been worn by royalty in many cultures since. Today, most people who wear beaded collars are not displaying their social status, but instead showing a sense of personal style. Collar necklaces are becoming more popular and popping into mainstream fashion once again. We rounded up five of our favorite beaded collar necklace patterns that will make you feel like royalty.

Tessellations Collar by Laura Graham

Tessellations Collar

When I learned about tessellations in school, I remember them being explained as geometric shapes, one or a variety, that cover a surface without overlaying or gapping between them. The Tessellations Collar, made by Laura Graham, combines multiple differing shaped beads stitched in a repetitive pattern. This necklace combines SuperDuos, O beads, Kheops par Puca triangles, and Silky beads to make up the piece’s unique look. The collar can also be made as a bracelet! Laura shares tips on how to do this in the pattern.

Cleopatra’s Collar

Simple stitches and fun shaped beads bring the Cleopatra’s Collar, designed by Svetlana Chernitsky, to life. This collar necklace comes together quickly and easily using two-hole seed and tile beads. You can practice and perfect flat peyote stitch and netting techniques with this piece, making it great for not only confident beginners, but those who happen to be more experienced. This necklace will be sure to make your next outfit shine.

Diamond Delight Necklace by Eve Leder

Diamond Delight Necklace

Embellish your neck with diamonds—DiamonDuos I mean. The Diamond Delight Necklace, by Eve Leder, combines right-angle weave and shaped beads for a polished end result. This beaded collar necklace uses metallic seed beads along with contrasting colors to make the piece pop. The pearls are on trend and form the repeated links, while simultaneously adding a touch of elegance. For this pattern, Eve recommends using a big-eye beading needle because it is easy to thread, but regular sized ones will work as well. When working with this piece, you’ll also want to make sure that the faceted sides of the DiamonDuos are facing the same direction for a clean look.

Honeysuckle Vines Necklace by Agnieszka Watts

Honeysuckle Vines Necklace

I would always look forward to honeysuckle season when I lived in North Carolina. There were just a few weeks where you could taste and smell the sweet honeysuckle nectar. While there will be no nectar from the Honeysuckle Vines Necklace by Agnieszka Watts, it remains just as sweet to the eyes. This collar-length necklace is complete in just a few simple steps. The stitches used are repetitive and hold the elegant beads together. Agnieszka recommends using mini daggers, which will achieve a more delicate look. You can even change out the beads on the QuadraTiles and instead, embellish them with small flat flowers or others if you prefer.

Starstruck Necklace

Prepare to put yourself and others in awe when wearing the Starstruck Necklace, designed by Cathy Andrews. This piece will be sure to draw attention with its various multi-colored beads. The collar necklace stitches up quickly, featuring netting and chevron stitch techniques. With simple stitches, the necklace can be completed on the same day as you started. Cathy recommends using steady, medium tension throughout the project. Because the project uses a good amount of beading thread, Cathy also recommends winding the long tail onto a kumihimo bobbin to keep it in place for when you need it. There are many colorways to try in this necklace, so customize to your heart’s content!
