Favorite Bead Shops: Beads on Fifth
|Me, my two friends, and all those beads at Beads on Fifth in Manhattan!|
Some of you may remember that a couple of weekends ago, I decided to take a little break and do some bead shopping in New York City with my friends. Each bead shop that I went to had its own unique selection of beads, findings and supplies, and I found some wonderful beads at each stop.

Beads on Fifth was the first place where we stopped to shop for beads! I had purchased and printed out a couple of discount coupons for Beads on Fifth, and I'd heard some good things about the store from other beaders, so we decided that it would be worth a look.
The store is small compared to the other stores we visited. But the walls are lined with beautiful gemstone beads and freshwater pearls in pretty much any size, shape, and color you could ever want. The trick to buying these gemstone beads, however, means knowing what you're getting. None of the stones have been marked as "dyed" or "enhanced," so make sure that you check with the staff before making any purchases.
|The Buddha beads appealed to my zen sensibilities, and the clock toggles are very steampunk!|
I was attracted to a large bin of metal charms and purchased about a dozen beads in the form of the Buddha, along with two beautiful toggle clasps made to resemble clocks. (Very steampunk!) I also found that I was unable to control myself when it came to the selection of Chinese crystals at Beads on Fifth. I purchased several strands in different colors and even got a couple strands of an unusual shape that resembled one of the Swarovski shapes I've seen.
I should mention that during this shopping trip, we were hanging out with the amazing, sweet, and funny Lisa Peters of Lisa Peters Art! Lisa and I did a little creative consulting and then picked out some great beads and findings.
While you certainly won't find any bargains at Beads on Fifth, you will find a nice selection of gemstone beads, freshwater pearls, metal beads, findings, and charms, along with some more unusual resin bead assortments and a nice array of Matsuno seed beads in several sizes and styles.
You can find Beads on Fifth at 376 Fifth Avenue, just past East 35th Street in Manhattan.
