Enhance Your Creativity with Gemstone Beads!
|The Citrine beads in Amber Leaves and Flowers by Susan Price Johnston will help encourage new creative thoughts.
Gemstone beads have always appealed to me. It must be something about all those geology classes I took in college – at least they were good for something, right? Knowing what I do about the physical processes that create these gemstones, including their molecular and crystalline structures, makes them all the more appealing to me. (I know. I'm a total science geek at heart!)
Something that has always fascinated me about gemstones and gemstone beads is their believed metaphysical properties. I love the legends and lore that tell you to sleep with an amethyst under your pillow to help prevent insomnia and get a better night's sleep, or how the ancient Greeks believed that eye problems could be cured by taking a bath in warm water with a piece of Lapis Lazuli.
And there are even some folks who will tell you that wearing gemstone jewelry will help to enhance your creativity! Hey, if that's true, then it doesn't sound bad to me. Maybe the next time I'm feeling a little stuck in my creative process, I'll throw on a piece of jewelry made with one of these gemstone beads to see where it takes me. Here are just a few of the gemstones that are supposed to enhance your creativity:

Citrine: Citrine is said to help encourage new creative thoughts, so this would be a good (or not-so-good?) gemstone to wear when bead shopping to inspire you to branch out in your color or bead choices. Do you always head straight for the blue seed beads? Put on your favorite Citrine necklace and maybe this time you'll head over to the pink seed beads instead!
Garnet: Do you have an idea for a beaded necklace that's been floating around in your head for weeks now? Put on your favorite garnet earrings and sit down at your beading table! Garnet is believed by some to encourage creative ideas and to inspire you to take action that will bring your ideas to fruition.
Sodalite: Not every beader is a writer, but for this writer/beader, I just may have to invest in a couple of these for my desk to see if they help when those pesky deadlines start creeping up on me. Sodalite is thought to help overcome writer's block, but I'm not sure if it would be more effective than a trip to my favorite local coffee house for enhancing my creativity.
Iolite: More beneficial to a bead-weaving artist would be the gemstone Iolite. Iolite is believe to unlock creativity in an artist, so if you're having beader's block, it might be a good idea to put on some jewelry made with this lovely, soft blue gemtsone bead.
|Feeling playful? Wear this Rhodochrosite Necklace and Earrings by Beth VanOstenbridge to infuse some of that in your beading projects!
Rhodochrosite: Nobody wants to see their beading designs feel stiff and tired. Wearing a piece of jewelry made with the gemstone Rhodochrosite just might help bring some much-needed laughter to your beading and jewelry-making designs. Rhodochrosite is believed to bring a spirit of playfulness to your creative process, and I can see why: that lovely pink color just wants have fun!
