Jewelry color palette inspired by neon colors in nature
Look to nature with an open mind to find color palettes outside your comfort zone.

Outside Your Comfort Zone

Neon colors are popular again and, surprisingly, they have foundations in nature. The term neon specifically refers to one specific gas element, neon, which emits a bright reddish orange color when electrified. Flowers commonly have intense, vibrant colors that come close to neon, with the hopes of attracting winged insects for pollination. Let neon colors spark your imagination.

Now that you’ve gathered your inspiration, it’s time to put it to use with five elements of design:

1

Start with a Focal Point: Identify a central component, such as a gemstone, bead or pendant that will serve as the focal point of your design. Use the component for selecting complementary colors. Consider the stone’s hues and undertones to guide your color choices for the rest of the piece.

2

  1. Understand Color Theory: Familiarize yourself with basic color theory principles to create harmonious combinations. The color wheel is a valuable tool that can guide you in selecting complementary, analogous, or monochromatic color palettes.

Experiment with different combinations and observe how they interact with each other and your own feelings about them.

3

Balance and Proportion: Good design is about achieving balance. This is true with color schemes as well. Consider the proportions of each color in your palette to ensure that no single color dominates the over all look, and how it guides your eye around the piece.

4

Experiment and Innovate: Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone and experiment with unconventional color combinations. Sometimes the most unexpected pairings can result in the most breathtaking and memorable jewelry designs!

5

Test and Adjust: Create small color samples or sketches to visualize how your chosen color palette will look when translated into beads and components.
