Create a Mother's Day Bracelet With Crystals

Mother's Day is coming up, and if you're like me, you are a last-minute shopper. This year, consider making something for Mom that will mean so much more because you hand-crafted it especially for her! Mom will think of you every time she wears one of these beautiful beaded bracelets customized to your family's birth months. Try replacing the beads with crystals in your mom's birthstone color, or with your and your siblings' birthstones.

Leslee Frumin's Formal Affair Bracelet (Beadwork, April/May 2014) feels wonderful to wear and is the perfect occasion piece for Mom. To make this for my mom, I'd use silver seed beads in place of bronze, light green crystal pearls in place of the gold, and peridot crystal bicones in place of white opal (peridot is my birthstone–my brother and I were both August babies).

This eye-catching Quadrille Bracelet by Sandie Bachand (Beadwork, April/May 2014) is one Mom could wear all the time. My mother's birthstone is ruby, so if I make this I'll trade out the blue zircon crystals for ruby crystals. I'll replace the teal fire-polished rondelles with apricot-colored fire-polished rondelles for a bit softer look in contrast to the ruby, but I'd keep the opaque gold luster/smokey topaz 2-hole lentils and gold and bronze seed beads.

If you procrastinate with your jewelry projects like me, check out the Himalaya Bracelet by mother-daughter team Glenda Paunonen and Liisa Turunen in the June/July issue of Beadwork, hitting newsstands May 6. Just keep in mind that's only 5 days before Mother's Day! For this stunning arm candy, I'd use gold-plated seed beads, ruby crystal bicones, and Bordeaux crystal pearls for eye-popping contrast.
