Celebrating 25 Years of Beadwork Magazine

Multicolored glass beads sorted by color, organized in plastic containers

Beadwork began as a newsstand-only special issue in 1996 and has impacted many beaders’ journeys over the years. Whether you discovered it in your favorite bead shop or learned about it from a friend, you’ve told us that Beadwork has been your trusted companion. For our Beadwork Fall 2021 commemorative issue, we asked some contributors to share what Beadwork means to them.

Being part of the Beadwork team in 2019 when I was a Designer of the Year was a tremendous honor for me. I loved the challenge of designing projects that would be interesting for people of all levels of beading ability to make and enjoy wearing. Over the last 24 years, the bi-monthly articles in Beadwork magazine have helped inspire the creative process of thousands of beaders around the world and thus helped make their lives more centered, peaceful and full of joy. – Wendy Ellsworth

Thanks for the opportunity to share the bead love via Beadwork. It’s been my go-to magazine since I began beading 20 years ago. It’s been a fabulous ride and I’m honored and proud to be featured in your magazine. Here’s to a fabulous, creative future. – Leslie Venturoso

Being a part of Beadwork is a huge honor for me.  Learning from other artists, their techniques, styles, and cultures of beading, Beadwork serves as a reference manual for many aspects of my jewelry crafting. – Kim Leahy

Framed Coin by Leslie Rogalski

My first steps into the wide world of beading began with a job as the editor in chief of Step by Step Beads, which eventually merged with Beadwork–so I consider Beadwork part of my “origin story.” It was a doorway to a universe of great people and creative experience, and I am glad to be included in this swan song issue. – Leslie Rogalski

Cleo’s Collar by Sandra Lupo

Beadwork’s Fast & Fabulous section has been a wonderful exercise for inspiration and design. I’ve embraced the theme challenge each time I’ve participated and loved the process of doing so. I hope my designs have pleased Beadwork’s makers. I would participate again in a heartbeat in a new online format. Best of luck to Interweave, wherever you may take us! —Sandra Lupo
