Birthdays, Beading, Elections, and Cake!
Every year, as the weather changes, I complain. I long for more summer days, as there are just never enough. However, the cooler temps, leaves on the ground, and pumpkins on the front porch signal to me an important day is approaching — my birthday! My birthday also signals Election Day.
As a child, when the two days collided, I was excited as it meant a day off from school. As an adult — I’m a little more thoughtful and am thankful for the fact we have an Election Day! Okay. I also get excited when the two collide and I get a day off from work — you would be excited too, no?
In our home, when it’s your birthday, you get to choose dinner, dessert, and the next family activity. I’m much more excited to do these things for my boys — especially baking their favorite dessert, like this vanilla/vanilla sprinkle cake!
This year for my birthday, in addition to baking a cake, I’ll be making up a few beaded bracelets using this very patriotic bead looming pattern. I will then choose a few people at my local polls to gift these designs to. I hope this simple gesture reminds them this day is very important and we’re very fortunate to live in a country where we have the right to vote — no matter gender, race, or religious beliefs.
I hope you will also get out and vote. And if you’d like to make this design (for yourself or for gifting), start by downloading the pattern here. Then, if you’re in need of a little beading inspiration, read Stash Buster: Bead Looming with Your Bead Stash.
