Beading Trends: DiamonDuos Shaped Beads
I reported on the popularity of the diamond shape in Beading Trends: Ooh La La Diamonds. One of my favorite shaped beads is the DiamonDuo and it happens to be very of-the-moment.
Debora Hodoyer has contributed some very creative shaped bead designs to Beadwork, and many of them feature DiamonDuos. Check these out and see if they spark your creativity – the earrings are great starter projects and the bracelets are perfect for taking it to the next level.
Lilac Burst Earrings
The Lilac Burst Earrings caught my eye with their radiating effect that can skew floral, sunburst, or snowflake, depending on your color choice. The DiamonDuos provide structure for the statement earrings, which are made using circular netting stitch.
Egyptian Flowers Earrings
The Egyptian Flowers Earrings combine a variety of shaped beads with circular netting. Part of what makes Debora Hodoyer’s projects special is her sense of color. Read Learn About Color with Bead Weaving Artist Debora Hodoyer for tips for creating colorways and design inspiration.
The stars of the Arabesque Earrings are probably the Arcos par Puca beads, but the DiamonDuos play an essential supporting role in the design. It’s so clever how the beads fit together to form the arabesque motif. You’ll combine a variation of right-angle weave, circular peyote stitch and picots to create these elegant, eye-catching stunners.
Wild Sage Bracelet
You’ll need a new bracelet to go with your fabulous new earrings! The Wild Sage Bracelet uses a variety of shaped beads with DiamonDuos to create connected, beaded elements that are reminiscent of sage blossoms. Just that sprinkle of diamonds gives the whole piece an elevated sense of style. Use variations of right-angle weave and circular netting to bring it all together.
Foxy Lady Bracelet
Or, try the Foxy Lady Bracelet on for size. Right-angle weave units of AVA beads and DiamonDuos form the modern, geometric design. Experiment with substituting beads in your favorite color palette. Whether you go pastel or make it rock-n-roll, you can sing Jimi Hendrix’s classic tune (affiliate link) while you weave and wear your new favorite accessory!
