Bead Crochet Your Next Design
The mention of Valentine’s Day brings hearts, flowers and the color red to mind. I’m not a heart person, really, but I do love the Swarovski crystal Devoted 2 U and Wild heart pendants. And really, how can you resist them? The deep colors, the great shapes, and those facets!
Not too long ago I taught a workshop for Swarovski using the Wild heart pendant. I still use this key fob as an accessory on one of my purses. It’s long but it makes a statement!
With slight modifications, the design could easily be made into a nice embellishment for a pillow, a fan/light pull, or even as a fancy gift topper for that special someone on Valentine’s day.
Here are a few notes on the design:
– I anchored the cording between two key rings but any solid component will do.
– Variegated rattail was woven into a “snake knot,” giving the design some flexibility. Use your own favorite cording and knot, or maybe choose one from a book like Decorative Knot Craft.
– Weave the cording to suit your design idea, finish it with a matching large-hole bead, like the 18mm rondelle with 3.5mm hole shown here.
– Create a tassel-like assembly of chain, beads, pendants – whatever you like, then finish using wire working techniques.

The Wild heart pendants also worked really well in this bead crocheted necklace, if I do say so myself.
I learned how to crochet a while back but after watching Candie Cooper’s and Judith Durant’s bead crochet videos, was inspired to try my hand at it again. And although I believed Candie when she said a design like the heart necklace would work up super fast and super easy, I was still surprised to see first hand, it really did!
Want to give bead crochet a try? Or step up your repertoire by using different materials and different stitches? Good news! With this limited edition bead crochet bundle, which includes bead kits for two different designs and bead crochet videos from both Candie and Judith, you can make your very own bead crochet designs in no time!
