While this style of cap was originally worn underneath a more substantial hat or in the privacy of one's home, today, it will make a nice statement as a modern accessory in the streets or on the slopes. Add cords and tassels on either side of the lappets if you like, and you'll have the option to snug it up for warmth—the originals often were found with pieces of cord or string still attached. Leave off the lappets and back extension and you have a handsome beanie-style cap that will go anywhere, indoors or out Yarn: Treenway Zola, 100% bombyx silk yarn, laceweight, 650 yards (594.4 m)/100 gram (3.5 oz) skein, 2 skeins of #57 Raven Black (held double throughout) for Black Cap and 1 skein of #1004 Red Saffron for Red Cap; Treenway Margaret, 100% bombyx silk yarn, fingering weight, 540 yards (493.8 m)/100 gram (3.5 oz) skein, 1 skein of #17 Smokey Topaz for Camel Cap
