Handpainted yarns look so different when the stitch counts are changed. This is highlighted here by turning the knitting on its side and knitting various widths of intarsia stripes on the leg and contrasting that with standard afterthought heels and wedge toes

Finished Size: About 8X (9, 9V)” (22 [23, 24] cm) foot circumference and 8 (8X, 9W)” (20.5 [22, 23.5] cm) long from back of heel to tip of toe. To fit women’s U.S. shoe sizes 6-7V (women’s U.S. shoe sizes 8-9V, women’s U.S. shoe sizes 10-11).
Yarn: Fingering weight (Super Fine #1) Shown here: Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks That Rock Lightweight (100% merino; 360 yd [329 m]/128 g): Blarney Stone, 1 (2, 2) skeins.
Needles: U.S. size 1 (2.25 mm): straight or circular plus set of 5 double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions: Waste yarn; B/1 (2.25 mm) crochet hook; 2 markers (m); tapestry needle.
Gauge: 16 stitches and 23 rows = 2″ (5 cm) in stockinette stitch worked in rows.
