The original pattern is in the fifth edition of The Lady's Assistant for Executing Useful and Fancy Designs in Knitting, Netting, and Crochet Work (Edinburgh: I. J. Gaugain, 1842). Mrs. Gaugain calls for Berlin wool and No. 9 (U.S. size 5, 3.75 mm) needles.

Finished Size: 5¾ inches (14.6 cm) wrist circumference and 4¼ inches (10.8 cm) long
