The pods in this project are formed using a dapping block, followed by twisting and crimping with chain-nose pliers. The look of this piece is organic and features mixed metals that have texture and patina. You can use semi-precious beads and pearls, or any other stones that strike your fancy. There are templates for the shape or you can experiment with your own.


Finished Size: Finished size depends on your preference, but you will begin with: 24-gauge copper sheet, 3" x 3"; 20-gauge sterling silver wire, 8"; 24-gauge copper wire, 6"; Copper chain, 32"
Required Materials:
  • 24-gauge head pins, plain or balled on the ends, 10
  • Beads for the center of the pods (this project uses oval-shaped nugget beads 12mm-14mm)
  • Beads for the dangles (this project uses 6mm-8mm freshwater pearls)
  • Beads for the connectors between the chain and pod (this project uses 8mm oblong freshwater pearls)
Tools: Dapping block and punches; Metal shears; Fine tip permanent marker; Texture hammers; Butane torch; Solder tweezers; Soldering surface (kiln brick or charcoal block); Flush cutters; Chain-nose pliers; Round-nose pliers; Hole punch pliers, size 1.25mm-1.8mm; File; Ruler; Plastic or rawhide mallet; Fine steel wool; Liver of sulfur; Pro polish pad or tumbler with steel shot.
