Digital Surface Design DVD
Learn how to create unique digitally-designed fabrics with an artistic flair.
Fiber artist Diane Rusin Doran takes viewers on a digital surface design adventure using her own photographs and manipulating them in Photoshop Elements. The simple process results in fabrics that resemble complex hand-dyed cloth, all without the chemicals, clean-up, and learning curve associated with traditional surface design.
Join Diane and learn how to create amazing digitally designed fabrics that combine colorful mixtures of realistic imagery with easily learned techniques. After an overview of traditional hand-dyed fabrics, Diane demonstrates how to create a variety of those effects in Photoshop. She takes the viewer through all of the steps for creating mottled backgrounds by using cloud imagery to mimic low-water immersion dyeing. Digital drip-dyed fabrics are created by using simple photo manipulation with stunning results. Digital fabric stamping is also a technique covered in this workshop, and incorporates using unique digital brushes for a stamped effect. Digital stamping techniques also create bleach discharge effects. Diane then shows a wide variety of examples of digital fabric printed at home with printer-ready fabric sheets, as well as printed professionally as yardage.
You’ll be amazed at the wide variety of hand-dyed effects you can achieve in your fabrics, all designed on a computer with photos you have on hand. Creating your own unique line of cloth is now a reality by learning this simple and accessible technique.
