Knitted Striped Shoes
by Victoria Mournean
Knitting the striped shoes was part of a continuing challenge between
me and a friend to use a particular knitting technique to make some
item of apparel. I made the initial fabric on a knitting machine,
with 5/2 Pearl cotton from Silk City. The color and texture repeat
was developed by using a line of accent color crocheted across the
purl side of the stripes. The knitted fabric was backed with a lightweight
backing and glued onto the shoes on the bias. All cut edges and
seams were covered with i-cord. |
Shoes
by Alan P. Taylor
I wanted to use knitting to create an integral part of the shoe,
not just surface decoration. Preferring all-leather shoes, I decided
to use leather in an unusual way by making yarn out of it. I cut
a long thin spiral out of soft leather, and knitted it in simple
stockinette stitch rather than a pattern so that the structure of
the stitches would dominate. |
