Sculpted Cross Necklace by Pat Mayer (page 21) [This project was originally published in the August/September 2003 issue of Beadwork]

Step 1 should read: Using 7 1/2' (not 2 1/2 yd) of doubled and waxed thread, string 20 to 30 seed beads for the desired height of the cross. Leave a 12" tail. Work 12 rows of flat peyote stitch. You will have 6 beads across the bottom and the top, and the tail thread and working thread will be at opposite corners. Fold the piece so the jagged edges touch, and stitch the edges together like a zipper. The zipper will bring both threads to the same end, so work back to the opposite end, exiting from any one of the edge beads.
