Plaid Effect Tutorial

Author

Esther Chandler

Introduction

This tutorial shows how to make a plaid effect for use on a scarf, cushion, etc.  It uses photos to show the technique and links to my gingham scarf pattern, which uses this method.

Materials List

You will need various colours of stash yarn in dk weight or smaller, and a size 7mm hook (smaller if you are using narrower yarn.)  The length will depend on your project, but you only need small amounts to make the swatch shown.

Finished Size

Swatch shown is approximately12cm wide.

Gauge

Gauge is not important for this project, but you may wish to adapt the number of dc’s per square to make squares (rather than rectangles).

Notes

This technique utilises two strands of yarn held together, changing one of them as you go to make the plaid pattern.

The Pattern
